POLICE AFFAIRS MINISTER'S CONVOY ATTACKED BY SUSPECTED POLITICAL THUGS IN OSUN

The convoy of the Minister for Police Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, was on Wednesday evening allegedly attacked by suspected political thugs at Gbongan junction, in Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the incident, which occurred around 5.30 p.m. caused gridlock along Ibadan-Ife expressway, where the state government was constructing bridge.
Though details of the attack were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, sources informed Nigerian Tribune that it took the timely intervention of the policemen in the convoy of the minister before the situation could be brought under control.

Reacting over the development, the Minister of Police Affairs said, "I was coming from Orile Owu, while trying to appeal to the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who were attacked at Gbongan junction to remain resolute and calm in spite of the harassment and provocation by the All Progressives Congress (APC), I was almost lynched by the thugs but for the rapid intervention of my security personnel, who whisked me away from the scene.
"I want to let the whole world know that despite PDP's commitment to peace the APC in Osun State is bent on scuttling the Saturday election but I believe the good people of the state would not allow it to happen," the minister remarked.

When contacted, the director of publicity, research and strategy of the APC in Osun, Mr Kunle Oyatomi said he was not aware of the incident.

According to him, "I am not aware of what you are talking about. To the best of my knowledge, there is no information on the attack of the Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan by APC members in Osun State."
