Laleye stated this during the handing and taking over ceremony of the 4th Brigade Command, Benin, where he officially assumed duty as Commander, the Edo State capital on Tuesday.
He said the Army would focus on its responsibility of protecting and defending the nation's territorial integrity, rather than allign itself with any political party.
"For me, the 2015 general elections are a very important task.
"And right from the beginning, when the Nigerian Army was formed, the Nigerian Army was apolitical; it does not have political party and it will never have," he said.
Brig. Gen. Laleye assured that the brigade would act professionally in order to protect the lives of eligible voters and ensure a credible electoral process.
He added that the 4th Brigade would intensify its efforts to consolidate on the activities of the previous leadership to ensure that the state was rid of criminals.
Laleye said, "For the 2015 general elections, the 4th Brigade will ensure that they are free and fair and security is provided for law abiding Nigerians of this state.
"We will do our job professionally. And by the end of my tenure, I hope that state will also know that a professional has come here, just like the previous man, who was a professional infantry officer."
Earlier, the former Commandant, Brig. Gen. Fidelis Azinta, noted that the command, under his leadership, recorded "a tremendous drop" in the incidence of illegal bunkering and crude oil theft, following the arrest of a syndicate of crude oil thieves in March, 2014, as well as infrastructural development.
