Checks indicated that the admission by President Goodluck Jonathan that he did not speak to King Mohammed VI of Morocco is generating anxiety among the principal officers, many of whom are afraid of being sanctioned for embarrassing the country.
It was gathered that the senior management staff have been holding containment meetings since
Wednesday when the Moroccan monarch denied holding a telephone conversation with Jonathan.
Checks revealed that the jittery officials were still having meetings as of Friday night to brainstorm on how to save their careers from the backlash of the diplomatic problems they had caused the Presidency.
Investigations revealed that Jonathan's directive that the issue should be probed had thrown the staff into a panic mode.
Efforts to get comments of the ministry's Director of Public Affairs Communication Division, Ahmedu Ogbole-Ode, did not succeed as he could not be reached on his telephone
