PDP Begging of Obasanjo For Forgiveness, Hypocritical? .... Don't Beg me, do the needful, says Obasanjo.

The leaders of the peoples Democratic Party has begged the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to return to active participation in the party. The likes of the National Chairman of the Party, Adamu Mu'azu, the senate President, Senator David Mark, Former Governor, Gbenga Daniel were among those who were virtually on their knees begging the former President to return to the Party.

The PDP chairman in his words said, "We have made mistakes and baba, please forgive us. Come and lead us. We are your followers and we assure you that we are all good boys and girls. We have sinned. Baba please forgive us,"

In reaction, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has come out to state clearly that he has never at any point in time, left the PDP but only withdrew his active participation in party affairs. He went on to state that he, at one point or the other has had discussions with the President, Goodluck Jonathan, the senate President and The Party chairman, on his grouse. Amongst which is the leadership of the south western zone of PDP handed to Kashamu, who he alleged to be a drug baron. He said that associating with Kashamu will be embarassing to him and his friends overseas.

He said PDP should restore principle, morality, honour , integrity, commitment and character which are paramount back to the party by removing Kashamu as the arrow head of the south west zone of the PDP.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is a former President of Nigeria, as such should be accorded some respect that goes with that office, he has transcended the position of national leader but has become an international leader. Having said that, following trends in our political life, the President of the nation automatically occupies the position of the leader of the party just as the state Governors direct the affairs of the state party machinery. If this is the practice, I am of the opinion that a former President should make vital inputs in the affairs of the party at least as much as the zonal arm of the party is concerned.

If Obasanjo has a complaint concerning the person who is handling the affairs of the zonal party where he heads from, commonsensincally, I feel the party leaders should sit down, review issues and resusltantly from decisions reached remove Kashamu and let someone else take over the affairs of the party in the spirit of reconciliation.

Not to have addressed this issue by the leaders of the Party but has resulted in begging Obasanjo should be viewed as hypocritical and would never yield any positive result. I hope at this point PDP will do the needful, if they acknowlege the fact that Obasanjo is a force in this country in general and PDP in particular. Beleive it or not he could to some extent determine the direction of swing of the pendulum and could be exploited by the All Peoples Congress, APC.
